Do I Need a trekking guide to trek in Nepal?
For any trekking in Nepal it is recommended to take trekking guide. Spending around USD 25 to 45 dollars per day will add a lot on your trip. I understand 400 dollars is quite a number, but hiring a guide will help you to book the accommodation, order food in the restaurant, book a ride to the trekking start point, share stories of Nepal and many more.
Not forcing you to get one, but it is a gentle reminder. A trekking guide will make a lot of difference? Extra couple of hundred dollars spend on guides will add extra level of your trip to the Himalayas.

What is guided trekking?
Guided trekking is the trek with a guide and a porter. If you choose to carry your backpack yourself – you might just hire a guide. This is also called guided trekking. With Nepalgram Adventure – you will get 3 different types of guided trekking. Service trek, luxury trek and all inclusive trek. Service package has guide service. All inclusive package includes everything. Guide, porter, food, accommodation and travel expenses are included in all inclusive package. Whereas luxury package includes everything with highest possible luxury that your money can buy.
Apart from guided trekking – Nepalgram has introduced self-guided trek from 2021, after COVID. In this trek you will be guided by a trekking guide remotely. We will use cell phone or satellite phone for this self-guided package.

Very obvious benefit of hiring a trekking guide is stress free travel. Guide will take care of all your accommodation, food. Guide will take care of your health and safety. Guide will be responsible for arrangement of any emergency evacuation in high altitude tours.
Apart from safety, guide will be your companion, friend in Nepal, fixture, protector, instructor, caregiver, waiter and everything. Nepali people are very helpful by nature. Thus your guide will go far and beyond the job description.

Who are trekking guides?
Trekking guides are Nepali citizens. They are trained and experienced by Nepal government. Only certified guides can take you to the mountains or in the city tours. There are local government authorities checking guide’s license. Those license has to be renewed. Thus guides are updated with the tourism of Nepal.
Guides with Nepalgram are locals from the region. Those who work in Everest region trekking are from the close by village. Similarly trekking guides for Mardi himal or other region are from nearby villages or towns, respectively.
What is difference between trekking guide and tour guide?
Trekking guides are those who take you to the mountains. They are path finder, safety guys, fun guys and responsible for your success to respective treks.
Tour guides are information officers of monuments in the cities. Tour guides are also called ambassador of Nepal. They are trained and licensed by Nepal government.
Trekking guide can also be a tour guide. But very few tour guides are trekking guides.
Are trekking guide sherpas?
Trekking guides are sherpas as well as other cast. Nepalgram has Sherpa trekking guides. Most of the Sherpa people are climbing guides who also work as trekking guides with Nepalgram. What is Sherpa Guide?
Shepa guides are same as other guides. To make it clear, Sherpa is a cast in Nepal. Sherpa lives in high altitude of Nepal Himalayas. Tenzing norgey Sherpa (first smmiter of Mt Everest) was from Mt Everest. Sherpa is a cast but it has been accepted as a position in the trekking industry of Nepal. Porter guides are known as trekking guides. Sherpa guides carry your bag and guide you. They are like guide plus drivers in the city tour.

There is nothing to wait and see. I do not think you are travelling to Nepal for 4/5 times. Even if you are travelling 16 times, you will not be trekking or touring in the same destination. Thus, hiring a trekking guide or buying a packaged tour is very ideal choice.
