Thorong la pass is the famous pass of Annapurna Circuit with an altitude of 5416 meters17765 feet above the sea level. It is also known to be the first pass of Nepal and the safest and easiest pass of Nepal.
Trekking over Thorong la pass was started from 70s’, by then hippies used to come over Nepal and enjoy the wilderness of the nature and interestingly explore the remoteness of the Annapurna Himalayas.
But at present trekking over Thorong la pass is not hard at all. There are plenty of tea house along the Annapurna circuit route. However, availability of accommodation in some places might be tricky as abundant number of trekkers trek this famous circuit trek over Thorong la pass.
Transportation towards the base camp of Thorong la pass is really advanced. There is motor able road all the way to Manang on one side and Muktinath on the other side of Thorong la pass. Interestingly small section of Muktinath Jomsom road is blacktopped as well. Despite of road all the way to 3500 meter or 11480 feet on either side of Thorong la pass. Driving straight to that height is not considered acclimatized pattern for safe trekking over famous Thorong la pass.
For the safety and the best view to trek over Thorong la pass – trekkers are recommended to follow itinerary of Annapurna circuit in general.
There are rumors on Annapurna circuit trek being spoiled with road construction – that is partly true but the alternative trekking trail to go towards Thorong la pass has ditched the rumor. There are beautiful trekking trail skipping the road way to get to Thorong la.
Throng la pass can be done with many other high passes. The famous trekking mixed with Throng la is Narphu valley trek. At Narphu there is Kangla pass and when you do both Narphu and Kang la pass trekking in that case you will cross 2 high passes of Annapurna circuit – one in famous circuit trail and another in the remote restricted trekking route.
Another famous combination of Thorong la pass with another trekking trial is Tilicho trek. With Tilicho trekking you will get to world’s highest altitude Lake of Tilicho and will add extra 2 to 4 days on top of Thorong la pass trekking.

Glacial lake Trek

Nepal is a Himalayan destination either for tour or trekking. 80 percent of the people traveling to Nepal come for mountain activities, whereas 50 percent of trekking destination in Nepal has Lakes. Mera peak starts in Everest region but the peak is on the other side of Everest Base Camp hiking that is in Makalu Barun conservation area. Very few people go for this trekking peak in the Makalu Barun National park.
Trekking in Nepal is under the bucket list of all most the entire traveler around the world. Nepal is famous for trekking activity.
