Normal or Less Active or Easy
Normal activity level means easy walking below 3000 meters. The trek will not need lot of energy and no previous experience of trekking is required.
If you have habit of walking in flat path, it is fine for normal activity level. During the trek there might be some uphill and downhill, you will be guided by trekking guide in the front and you can follow him/her. So, normal level of fitness is okay for trekking/climbing or hiking activities in normal category.

If you are not an outdoor person, or if you do not run or go to gym, if you think you have not fit body, if you think you hate walking – still you will be able to do normal category of trekking activity.
But on top of everything you must have enthusiasm to see the mountains and you must be mentally sound. Trekking like Poonhill trek, Chisapani Nagarkot trek, Langtang valley trek, Everest panorama trek, Lower Everest trail trek, Ghorepani Ghandruk trekking etc fall on this category.
Exceptional or somehow active or Moderate
By the meaning of exception, this category of trekking activity with level of exception is person dependent. If you are a regular trekker or outdoor type personality; choosing exceptional category of trekking activity with us, we assure it won’t be a problem at all. But if you are not outdoor type person but is fit, it depends on how your body reacts with the environment of the mountain.
In exceptional trekking activity level you will have to trek in the range of 2500 meters to 5100 meters above the sea level.
If you are sport person trekking in the exceptional category can be an easy trek. But if you are not into sports or do not run or don’t do any physical activities in your daily life, then you might need to push yourself to some extent. It never means you cannot do this kind of trekking, but it will certainly be tough and will burn your fat more than expected.
In prior to exceptional level of trekking activity, you can start training your body at least 2 weeks before your trekking. For the training you can run with mask on, walk on the ladder of high raised building with mask on. Putting mask on makes you used to with walking in less oxygen environment.
Frankly speaking; if you cannot push further after choosing this activity level, you must have to choose alternative method of traveling like horse or helicopter; or you need to skip the rest of the trekking. In high altitude trekking; height, cold, multiday walk and your health might affect your adventure mission.
Tough or Active or Hard
Trekking activity which are challenging falls under tough category activity level. Trekking in Nepal has many tough trekking trails. If you are looking for thrill and adventure and beauty of the nature at once, this level of trekking activity would fit you. To do this kind of trekking you must have multiday trekking experience or you need to be a sports person or you need to be a physically fit person.
You will be trekking over the high pass (one or couple of them) in the range of 3500 meters to 5800 meters above the sea level.

If you are mentally and physically healthy, this could be an easy challenge for you. But if you overestimate your stamina you might need to skip some part of the trekking. For example, Everest 3 high pass trekking can be done skipping one to another. Many people do not do all 3 pass even they sign up for. If you feel like you cannot do 1st you will still have time to do other 2 of the high passes.
Prior to this trekking you must have previous trekking experience and also good physical condition. For the training you can run or increase the hour in your gym. Running with mask, walking up and down the ladder in high raised building for several times could be a best option for training before trekking in tough level trails.
Choosing the tough category of trekking activity level means, you might need to walk longer hours (more than 10 hours someday) and you need to walk many uphill and down hills. Tough trekking means you need to walk in the top of the rocks, boulders and through the landslide and glaciers. Scenery will be pristine but the level of difficulty will be a sweet challenge.
Most of the camping treks and restricted region trekking activity are considered as active level trek; also called tough trekking activities.
Demanding or Very Active or Challenging
Trekking to the top of any peaks is considered demanding level of activity. You need to keep in mind that, this kind of activity might not be always be in your favor if weather, your body and present situation does not support you accordingly.
You will be trekking above/around 6000 meters from the sea level, in this type of trekking activity. Mera peak trekking, yala peak climbing, 5 high pass trek in Everest, sherpini col trek, Makalu pass trek, ama lapcha pass trek are few examples of demanding trek in Nepal.
