Pachermo peak climbing

The popular Pachermo peak in Nepal is also known as Parchemuche peak. It lies to the south of Tashi Lapcha pass. Tashi Lapcha is one of the famous high passes connecting the Rolwaling region to Everest himalaya.

Tashi Lapcha pass is 6,187 meters. Most of the Everest map calls this peak as Parchoma, which is quite possibly a misspelling. Both Shipton’s and Gregory’s expedition surveys gave the peak an altitude close to 6,318 meters.

Pachermo Peak is a stunning trekking peak located in the Rolwaling region of Nepal, close to the Everest region.

Pharchamo peak is an NMA “B ” group peak in Nepal. There are 15 B class NMA peaks in Nepal.

Seen from the pass, the mountain is an attractive but undemanding snow peak with a well-defined north-by-northwest ridge. Rising from the relatively flat, crevassed glacier astride; the Tesi Lapcha high pass is appealing and stunning in sight.

Top of Parchamo peak summit offers – views of the beautiful mountains from Rolwaling himalaya range as Gaurisankhar (7,134m), Mt Everest (8,848,86m), Nuptse (7,896m). Views of Amadablam (6,812m), Thamserku (6,800m), Kusum Kanguru (6,369m), Island peak (6,189m) Makalu (8,463m), and part of famous adventurous three pass trekking of Khumbu valley.

1st successful expedition of Pharchamo Peak

Pharchamo Peak was first climbed in 1955. The face of the ridge forms a uniform slope broken by crevasses rising from the rocky lower buttresses above the Drolambau Glaciers in the west.

Rolwaling valley is the main access to Pharchamo Peak, although this route was closed in the 1980s due to the potential dangers to porters crossing the Tashi Lapcha.

The only other alternative route is from the Khumbu side via Namche Bazaar and Thame.

Pharchamo Peak has become an adventure climb for trekkers crossing the high Tasi Lapcha to Namche Bazaar in the Everest region. This Peak combined with the more demanding Ramdung peak & trek over the Tashi Lapcha.

Trekking route

We follow the trekking trail to Thame and then Thengpo to Ngole to set up the base camp on the moraines at 5100m elevation. Only another alternative route is from the Khumbu side via Namche Bazaar.

As we climb we arrive at a possible campsite but it is not advisable to set up the camp due to often rock falling. So, we continue this exciting adventure by climbing northeast of the icefall Tesi Lapcha and arrive just below the rock walls.

Here we fix the high camp on rocky terraces at altitude 5,500m.
