Annapurna circuit is one of the first known circuit treks in the Nepal Himalaya, whereas Mustang is a desert landscape in the lap of Himalayas.
One step at a time will take you to places that you could never have imagined possible. Embrace the “can do” attitude. Dhampus peak climbing takes you over thapa pass in the route of Dhaulagiri trekking route.
Look down from the top of the Himalaya; while simultaneously looking across at the soaring peaks of the Mt. Annapurna and Mt. Dhaulagiri Himalayan ranges. Dhampus Peak also known as Thapa Peak takes you through the high altitude Thapa Pass (5244m) and to Dhampus Peak (6012m).
Location of the Dhampus peak
Dhampus peak lies in both Annapurna conservation area and Mustang region. Mustang is regarded as the forbidden kingdom of Nepal. The Annapurna and Mustang regions are rich in flora and fauna and you can expect to see a magnificent display of Nepal’s national flower -rhododendron with its striking white, pink and red blossoms while trekking through the lower regions of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains.
Dhampus Peak lies northeast of the big Dhaulagiri massif. The overwhelming altitude differences between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges makes Dhampus Peak a very exposed spot to observe the scenery from.

Having Tukuche Peak (6920m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m) spectacularly near; you will have an exciting feeling on the top of Dhampus peak. The biggest mountain range in the world with uninterrupted heights between 7 to 8 thousand meters, includes Annapurna – I, II, III and IV Annapurna-South, The Nilgiris and Tilicho Peak tower above the horizon in the South.
Trekking route
The 3500-meter ascent from Tukuche, where the climb starts, makes you feel you have gone really high.
The normal route to Dhampus Peak follows the west-ridge, which connects Dhampus Pass (5200m), where our high camp is placed for summit attempt.
For acclimatized people we can customize a 6-day trip to Dhampus peak; starting from the High Plains in Tukuche.
For unacclimatized individuals we have a best fit itinerary with acclimatization programs. An ideal combination is the trekking over the Thorong La 5416m pass en route the world-famous Annapurna Circuit trek.
Though this expedition exceeds the 6000-meter frontier, no technical climbing skills are required. The use of crampons depends on snow conditions meaning experience in walking on snow/ice a must. Because, nothing is taken to be granted for the sake of safety. As there are no steep pitches and no glacier traverses, the climbers are not roped together. Good physical health and mental state would be enough for Dhampus peak climbing.
