Short Mera Peak Climbing outline Itinerary
About 30 minutes flight to Lukla has great scenery, sit on the left side of the plane if possible. Once landed at the beautiful airport of Lukla at the altitude of 2880m we will start trekking towards Chhetarla.
We will pass by very few trekkers in no tree line zone, no local people, and basic tea houses are interesting attractions of the day.
Kothe is a very small village right below the peculiar view of Mera peak on one side and jungle nearby.
Kothe is a comparatively big village and Thangnag is in the middle of nowhere (3 – 4 hours). Night at the altitude of 4350m above sea level, it is better to go for a acclimatization hike to north hill as you will have enough time to spend at Thangnak.
We will hike uphill towards the hilltop and come back to the tea house; so as to follow the acclimatization rule of hike high sleep low.
Trekking for 2 to 3 hours through the main trail, night will be at Khare at the altitude 5045m above sea level. Khare is a gateway to Mera peak climbing, Ama Lapcha pass (takes you to EBC side), Thamsherku peak and many other.
Trekking for about 3 to 4 hours, the night will be at the base camp of the Mera peak climbing at the altitude of 5300m at a tented camp.
Note - Spare day means safety line for success assurance. we normally trek to high camp of mera peak & climb the summit of mera peak from the high camp. But still we are keeping this day in the itinerary is because - if you feel sick or if the weather is not good - this extra day has always helped for the success.
The trekking will be little tough as we have to pass through the rough trekking trail. The trekking will continue for about 4 to 5 hours through the rough surface. The night will be at the altitude of 5780m above sea level.
The trekking for 5-6 hours will take us to the altitude of 6473m above sea level. We can get the glorious view of the surrounding mountains from the summit of the Mera peak. We will be able to see Everest, Nuptse, Makalu and thousands of peaks and unreal scenery of the mountain vista.
Khare to Kothe is an easy descends, and if you didn't visit the monastery in the middle of the trail, utilizes your time to go to the monastery which comes after Thangnak village. Trekkers often celebrate at Kothe, but we suggest you to hold the celebration until you get back to Lukla, because way to Thuli Kharka is demanding.
Most of the trail is in the jungle, small rhododendron and beautiful view of Mera peak. Uphill is expected to stop you several times with shortness of breath, go easy and take it easy. Sipping warm tea in front of the fire is a good way of spending leisure time at Thulikharka.
Thulikharka is in the middle of nowhere, so here you can just take it easy and stay closer to the mountain. Today the trekking ends, and usually trekkers celebrate the day with the whole trekking team at dinner, sharing the experience. This is the last night in the mountains together with the whole team.
We will transfer to your respective hotel.
