Cholatse Peak climbing can be an ideal climbing trip in Nepal as it is situated in the middle of Khumbu/Everest Himalaya region in Nepal. With an elevation of  6440 meters Cholatse peak climbing is one of those beautiful location to climb next to everest. Cholatse is pretty similar climb as Lobuche peak. However, Lobuche peak is smaller than Cholatse.

Proper acclimatization, good physical & mental health is necessary for technical peak like Cholatse. However, proper acclimatization within our itinerary will take you all the way to Gokyo ri and descends before climbing to the summit of Cholatse peak.

Climbing towards higher altitude of Gokyo ri & descending before the actual adventure of Cholatse peak climbing; helps in proper acclimatization.

Likewise, all other peaks in the Khumbu/everest region, Cholaste Peak Climbing, starts with short flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. From Lukla, we start trekking to reach to the famous trading spot of Namche Bazaar via Phakding village, at Phakding we spend our first night of cholatse peak expedition. After reaching Namche, cholatse peak climb – trekking route follows okyo ri trekking route.

In this beautiful trekking route, explore the beautiful Gokyo Valley and its beautiful Lakes. Then, the trail leads you to the summit of Gokyo Ri for a wide open view of Everest and other impressive peaks.

After climbing the Gokyo Ri, further, walk to Chola Phedi via the Gokyo Valley to get to the base camp of Cholatse peak.

Cholatse (also known as Jobo Lhaptshan) is a mountain in the Khumbu region of the Nepalese Himalaya range. Cholatse is connected to Taboche (6,501m) by a long ridge.

How hard is cholatse peak climbing?

You must be physically competent and technically okay in ice climbing. Your rock climbing skill will surely help for cholatse peak climbing.

Comparatively Cholatse Peak is very hard to climb than other peaks of around 6000 meters in everest region. Comparatively easier peaks in everest are island peak climbing, Lobuche peak climbing, Pokalde etc.. So, Mt Cholatse is the technically difficult peak which requires careful ascent.

We recommended cholatse peak for those climbers who are semi experienced in ice/rock climbing. Climbers need a competitive mountaineering ability to climb Cholatse peak. Resisting cold, continues trekking, high altitude adaptation, basic roping & gear skills are some of the counted mountaineering ability.

1st successful expedition

Cholatse was first climbed via the southwest ridge on April 22, 1982 by Vern Clevenger, Galen Rowell, John Roskelley and Bill O’Connor. The north face was successfully scaled in 1984. The first solo ascent was accomplished on April 15, 2005 by Ueli Steck through the north face.

Trekking route

Mt Cholatse peak climbing trip follow the caravan routes of Gokyo valley trekking gtrail. The trip starts with flight to Lukla and follow the same route as of Gokyo valley trek for all the way to Gokyo village.

We will climb Gokyo Ri for acclimatization & continue trekking to Cholatse Base Camp before returning to Phortse after climb of Cholatse peak.

From Phortse village we trek back all the way down to Namche & fly to Kathmandu from Lukla airstrip.
