Pokalde Peak Climbing - 18 Days

Pokalde Peak Climbing is one of the easy & less challenging but more fun – trekking plus peak climbing trails of everest region Nepal.  Pokalde peak climbing is a popular & easy trekking peak with everest basecamp trekking in Nepal.

Pokalde Peak Climbing is very popular among the climbers and mountaineers who love to have challenges all the while relishing in the mesmerizing views of the Himalayas close to Mt Everest in the region. Peak climbing with Everest base camp trek, pokalde can be a unique expericen in your EBC trek.

Your trek begins from a short, scenic flight to Lukla. Lots of air turbulence can be felt in that small plane even during 25 minutes of flight. We will then trek towards Namche Bazaar passing through small villages (like; Chaurikharka, Ghat, Thadokoshi, Phakding, Monjo, Jor sale), rhododendron forests, and rivers.

Namche is an iconic village for all Everest region trekkers, expeditors or climbing crews

Namche Bazaar is a trade center of the Khumbu Region and also the gateway to the depth of Himalayas. You will get to see the lifestyle, culture, and tradition of the inhabiting Sherpa communities.

Namche is bit more modernized than usual. But still the typically traditional practices are alive in nearby villages like; Thame, Khumjung, Khunde. We will also get an opportunity to visit multiple museums (sherpa museum, Namche gallery, Sagarmatha national park museum – at namche bazzar) to know more about the history and cultural story by then. Stories of sherpa, mountaineers and relation in between mountain & sherpa is inspiring.

Close view of mountains by your bedroom and a short walk towards Sagarmatha national park museum premises to witness the beauty of tallest mountain (Mt. Everest) is major attraction of Namche Bazzar. Sagarmatha national park museum is located in a perfect location to showcase most of the peaks seen during everest basecamp trekking.

Helicopter tour to Namche or just Namche trek is thus famous and trending among those who want to be in comfort & still love the Mountains.

Caravan Route along the towering mountains explores lot more than just those beautiful mountain ranges

From Namche you will trek towards Tengboche, where you will see the most important monastery of the entire region, Tengboche Monastery. Tengboche monastery is the largest monastery of upper everest region.

Soon after crossing another oldest and historically important Buddhist Monastery at upper Pangboche ; we will get into the no tree line zone. Basically, trekking route towards pokalde basecamp is same as everest basecamp trekking route.

Towards the end of trekking part – following an ascending trail, you trek all the way up to the Kala Patthar and take a side trip to Everest basecamp before climbing Pokalde peak. At Kalapatthar summit, you will get to behold panoramic views of mighty Mt. Everest (8,848 m) and other surrounding mountains. The view of the mountains, glacier and the ice fall is closer than you can imagine.

After Kalapatthar and EBC trek, you will trek towards Pokalde Base Camp and climb the summit. Pokalde Peak is located to the south of the Kongma La Pass (5,535 m). Kongma la is a famous (and first to cross in general) pass of Everest 3 high passes trek. Kongma la is also an isolated route that will lead you to the Chhukung valley. Chhukung valley is also called imja valley.

Pokalde basecamp & the summit

You will see a small hanging glacier on the northern side of the peak upon arrival at the base camp of Pokalde peak. While upon reaching the summit, you can enjoy the spectacular views of the surroundings and the mountains.

You will get to see the snow-capped peak like; bit of Mt Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Nuptse (7,861 m), Ama Dablam, (6,812 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m) and many others in a long chain of white beauty.

The climbing route to the Pokalde peak will be difficult at times but just with use of proper trekking equipment; the summit can be reached. Previous trekking experience is recommended to go on pokalde peak climbing, and you also have to be physically fit. Saying that – climbing training or previous climbing experience is not needed for Pokalde peak climbing.

After spending some time on the summit, you will trek back to Namche Bazaar.

The best time for Pokalde peak climbing adventure is from March to May and September to November. For your information spring (March to may) is the beast season for Mt Everest Expeditions as well.

Mt. Pokalde was first climbed in 1953 by a route from the Kongma-La (5535m) along its North-ridge and now also; most people climb the north ridge from the Kongma-La. It is also possible to climb the South ridge.
