Km., is one of the attractions for trekkers to explore the variation of Flora and Fauna inside the UNSECO world heritage listed national park with majorly Sherpa, Tamang, Rai, and many other tribes’ residence. Everest basecamp gokyo ri trek is one of the demanding treks in Everest region since we pass high altitude around 5420 meters or 17778 feet during our trekking EBC towards this hidden, beautiful, panoramic valley of Gokyo. We start our trekking after scenic mountain flight to Lukla in a small plane or after driving to Salleri by jeep. Trail explores, two basecamps of mountains above 8 thousand meters and one Vanjyang (narrow valley) of Cho la, this signifies the adventure in this trekking. Since this is a basecamp trekking, we can organize as per your need and requirement, please feel free to contact us for further changes in the suggested itinerary Everest basecamp gokyo ri trek over cho la pass.

How to go to Gokyo Lakes with everest basecamp trek?

View of Gokyo lakes seen from the top of Gokyo ri on our Everest basecamp chola pass Gokyo ri trek
View of 3 lakes of Gokyo from the top of Gokyo ri – Towards the most Left – Mountain with less snow on the top is Mt Everest. Gokyo ri aka this view point is the best place to see Mount Everest. That is why Gokyo ri trek is another famous trek excluding Everest basecamp trek itself. However, this trekking package includes both Everest basecamp and the Gokyo ri, via Chola pass.

In this trekking package we will go to Everest BaseCamp(EBC) and Cho La Pass to get to gokyo lakes. There are two types of famous itineraries. You can either go to the Gokyo lakes first and then cross Cho La to get to EBC, or you can go the reverse route and head to EBC first before crossing Cho La to Gokyo.

Gokyo lake is one of the most visited trekking lakes in Nepal, with two high passes leading out of the Gokyo valley – the Cho La Pass being the most trekked, connecting with the Khumbu valley near Lobuche while the other is Renjo La pass that joins the trail between Thame and Nangpa La Pass. Crossing high passes can be a strenuous and will require good physical health/stamina. Being able to complete a high pass is an achievement in and of itself.

If someone wanted to avoid going through any high passes and still do both EBC and Gokyo, that would be doable. However, this specific package would suggest that you go to EBC first, back-track and then go to Gokyo through Dole. It would be a longer route but would avoid the high pass. Please contact us for a custom itinerary if you would like to go this route.

For those who would enjoy the challenge of a high pass on their trek, this specific package would suggest that you trek to EBC first and cross the Cho La Pass (5420 m) to get to scenic lake valley. This trek will lead you to EBC, Kala Pattar (one of the most scenic places to see Mount Everest up close and personal) and also the Gokyo lakes, where you will have another opportunity to see Mount Everest from a distance, as well as the beautiful pristine glacial lakes of Gokyo.

For a must go place as Everest BaseCamp and Gokyo Lake, Nepalgram Adventure suggests you the itinerary of Everest base camp Gokyo Ri trek designed as below; but we are always with you to customize your trip.

Once you get back to Ghorakshep celebrate your achievement and relax before we head down to Zongla village.
Descend starts to the base of Cho la pass around 9am in the morning. View of Pheriche river valley will be eye catching for today’s hike to Zongla. Trekkers from EBC classic trail will split their way down to pheriche after 20 minutes walk from Lobuche village and you will be with Cho la pass crew. Once you take right turn to the Gokyo trail all you see will be people heading towards Chola pass. Today you walk around Lobuche East peak, so walking on the edge of the hill demands your wind stoppers. Use buff, wind stopper and drink lot to get ready for next days early hike over the pass.

Start your early morning hike with warm gears, go slow and constant. Do not go short of breath but it is suggested top get to the top before noon, because afternoons are windy in the top.

    • Time – 3 hours
    • Activity – Trekking

We would suggest you to go for sunset in the same day if weather forecast is good, if not there is option of side trip to walk to 5th lake or walk around 3rd lake or just chill after big day you had yesterday.

    • Altitude - 5370 meters
    • Special – Gokyo ri
    • Time – 7/8 hours
    • Activity – Trekking

It takes 2 hours 30 minutes to get to the top of Gokyo Ri, but the scenery is nice even from the height of 4900 meters itself. You will make it to the top before the sun rise and head back to same guest house to have your breakfast and we head to Machermo peak at 9am approx. Hike to Machermo from Gokyo village is around 5 hours and is mostly downhill.

    • Altitude - 3440 meters
    • Special – Namche bazzar
    • Time – 8/10 hours
    • Activity – trekking

You will trek back to Namche, most of the trekkers will be waiting to have shower as soon as they get back to this place, this is because most of you do not choose to take shower higher than Namche. So, clean your an weeks sweat and get a chilled beer. 6-8 hours of walk to Namche is mostly on the river valley and you will get back to Jungle once you reach Dole village. Apart from an hour uphill from Portse Tanga to Mong; most of the trail is downhill.

    • Altitude - 2860 meters
    • Special – View of landscapes and mountains
    • Time – 9 hours
    • Activity – Trekking

Last day of the trek to Lukla is usually mixed with feeling of detachment and tiredness, celebrate your last night with your team at Lukla and talk about your successful trekking with guides, porters and friends you have earned during the trek. Trekking would take 8-10 hours, mostly downhill; it is same trail that you have walked the very 1st and 2nd day while ascending. I bet it is way easier than that way up and you will love to see yourself completing what you have dreamed.

    • Altitude - 1380 meters
    • Special – Scenic view from plane
    • Time – 30 minutes flight
    • Activity – Flying in plane

Taking off of the small plane from Lukla airport is easy and safe, but you might have to wait for the first plane to Land at the airport. The flight is about 30 minutes; do not forget to take the video of the trip, an adventure that you have accomplished. Once you get back to Kathmandu we will receive you at the airport.

    Overview

Everest base camp Gokyo ri trek is a complete trek in the Everest region as it covers famous Gokyo lakes in the trekking towards legendary Everest base camp.

Trekking to Basecamp is not hard but once you choose to get to other side of Gokyo valley with crossing chola pass; Everest trekking will be little adventurous.

Everest basecamp chola pass Gokyo Ri trek is the famous trek to the base camp of world’s highest mountain with an altitude of 8848 meters. The name Everest was given by a person who scaled the height of Everest to be 8848 meters. The famous name of this legendary man is George Everest. Before he named this mountain under his name, Nepali used to call it as Sagarmatha (still in says so) whereas Tibetan still says Chomolungma. In Nepal Everest is called mother goddess of earth, so in Tibet.

Gokyo Lakes are world’s highest freshwater Lakes in Nepal’s located inside Sagarmatha National Park with a beautiful cascade pattern in front of world’s tallest mountain; Mount Everest. Six different Gokyo lakes are located at an altitude of 4,700–5,000 meters or 14760-16400 feet above the sea level, of which Thonak Lake is the largest. Gokyo Lake trek has few options to connect with Everest basecamp for Everest base camp Gokyo Ri trek. One via Chola pass and another through Tengboche and another with Phortse village trek. Gokyo lakes are in the famous valley of Everest, also called Gokyo valley.  Everest basecamp gokyo lake trek is second most popular trek in Everest region. Everest basecamp gokyo Ri trek is not only famous for Gokyo ri and freshwater lakes of Gokyo but also for its remoteness, best accessible viewpoints and less crowed trekking route in Everest basecamp trekking trail.

This package is a complete Nepal trip as it covers Kathmandu sightseeing and the mountain trekking as well.

    How is Chola pass?

Villages like Zongla & Thangnak will have less people and a more rugged feel than the EBC trail. There will also be fewer tea houses along your path with more opportunities to see Nepal in its natural glory. Do not forget to capture photos of Khumbu valley with majestic Mt. Amadablam seen just before the top of Cho La Pass. View of Mt. Makalu from the top of Chola pass is mesmerizing, this scenery worth walking on the ice with spikes. Walking over the Nagjumba glacier coming straight from Mt. Cho yu is amazing experience. 2 hours gentle walk on the glacier from Thangnak, you will get to 3rd lake (among 6 lakes) that is where Gokyo village will be waiting you.

Situated at the base of the sixth highest mountain in the world, Cho Oyu (8188m), Gokyo Valley is a must see place.
