How do to Gokyo Lakes?

In this trekking package we will go to Everest BaseCamp(EBC) and Cho La Pass to get to gokyo lakes. There are two ways to do the itinerary. You can either go to the Gokyo lakes first and then cross Cho La to get to EBC, or you can go the reverse route and head to EBC first before crossing Cho La to Gokyo.
Gokyo lake is one of the most visited trekking lakes in Nepal, with two high passes leading out of the Gokyo valley – the Cho La Pass being the most trekked, connecting with the Khumbu valley near Lobuche while the other is Renjo La pass that joins the trail between Thame and Nangpa La Pass. Crossing high passes can be a strenuous and will require good physical health/stamina. Being able to complete a high pass is an achievement in and of itself.
If someone wanted to avoid going through any high passes and still do both EBC and Gokyo, that would be doable. However, this specific package would suggest that you go to EBC first, back-track and then go to Gokyo through Dole. It would be a longer route but would avoid the high pass. Please contact us for a custom itinerary if you would like to go this route.
For those who would enjoy the challenge of a high pass on their trek, this specific package would suggest that you trek to EBC first, and cross the Cho La Pass (5420 m) to get to scenic lake valley. This trek will lead you to EBC, Kala Pattar (one of the most scenic places to see Mount Everest up close and personal) and also the Gokyo lakes, where you will have another opportunity to see Mount Everest from a distance, as well as the beautiful pristine glacial lakes of Gokyo.
Scenery of Everest basecamp Chola pass Gokyo Ri Trek
Being the world’s highest freshwater interconnected lakes, Gokyo is a beautiful blue gem in Nepal’s Everest trekking region, located at Solukhumbu, the north most part of Sagarmatha National park at an altitude range of 4,600–5,100 m (15,400–16,400 ft). Situated at the base of the sixth highest mountain in the world, Cho Oyu (8188m), Gokyo Valley is a must see place.
The view from the top of Gokyo Ri(5370meters) is incredible, (Gokyo Peak) has breathtaking mountain view of 100s of towering mountains including Everest (8,848m), Cho You (8,156m), Lhotse (8,501m), Makalu (8,470m). As you will walk in the classical trail of EBC on your ascend; none of the wildlife, flora, fauna and river valley will be missed. Crowded trail of EBC will get quiet and peaceful once your route to Chola Pass splits after trekking down from Everest BaseCamp and Kalapatthar hike (20 minutes after Lobuche village).
Gokyo Ri trek alone is another famous trek of Everest region trek as it is known to offer best white mountain view and reflection of those mountains on Gokyo Lakes.
How is Chola pass?
Villages like Zongla & Thangnak will have less people and a more rugged feel than the EBC trail. There will also be fewer tea houses along your path with more opportunities to see Nepal in its natural glory. Do not forget to capture photos of Khumbu valley with majestic Mt. Amadablam seen just before the top of Cho La Pass. View of Mt. Makalu from the top of Chola pass is mesmerizing, this scenery worth walking on the ice with spikes. Walking over the Nagjumba glacier coming straight from Mt. Cho yu is amazing experience. 2 hours gentle walk on the glacier from Thangnak, you will get to 3rd lake (among 6 lakes) that is where Gokyo village will be waiting you.
