Annapurna Circuit Trek Overview
The Annapurna circuit trek starts with views of the beautiful river valley with unbelievable rural settlement. Road construction in these villages is amazing. This trail alternates between the river and the road, which makes the trekking both easy and hard. We walk through the world’s deepest gorge Kali Gandaki with Annapurna I rising up to 8091 m in the East and Dhaulagiri 8167 m in the West! We savor the fabulous mountain views from Poonhill and discover the diverse Annapurna region. Mount Manaslu is visible during the trek and range of Annapurna looks unreal; your photos are going to look like a painting from a fine artist.
Furthermore, Annapurna Circuit Trek also takes us to Manang, Jomsom and the Muktinath region, which again gets us acquainted with the diverse Nepalese landscape and culture. Manang at the altitude of 3,519 meters is a major town in the Manang District of Nepal. It is situated in the broad valley of the Marshyangdi River, North of the Annapurna mountain range. The river flows from the East to the West, and the 5,416-meters high Thorong La pass leads to Muktinath hindu temple in the pristine landscape of God mountain. To the North there is the Chulu East peak of 6,584 m. Most groups trekking around the Annapurna range will take resting days in Manang to acclimatize to the high altitude (basical concept is to sleep low and trek high), before taking on Thorong La pass.
There are now motor-able road in the area as well as trails where goods are transported on jeep or mules, or carried by porters.
Muktinath is a sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhist located in the Muktinath Valley at an altitude of 3,710 meters, at the foot of the Thorong La mountain pass. Within Hinduism, it is called Mukti Kshetra, which literally means the “place of liberation”. The ancient name of this place before Buddhist origin is Thiru Saligramam. The Buddhists call it Chumig Gyatsa, which in Tibetan means “Hundred Waters”. For Tibetan Buddhists, Muktinath is a very important place of Dakinis, Goddesses known as Sky Dancers. This is the place of Nirvana. We continue our trek to the East to Poonhill which is one of the world’s best view points and from where we can see the 360°view of Himalayas (including Annapurna range and Dhaulagiri range).
We will be following the local village trails along the Ghorepani trekking route, leading towards Ghorepani. Along the trail we will pass through villages, terrace fields and forests. This is a long trek for travelers wishing to circle the Annapurna massif with stunning views. Please contact us if you have any questions, we are happy to help!
Famous and historic circuit trekking over thorong la pass has been changed with infrastructural modernization. It is not like the same as it used to be in the 70s’ but the beauty i of nature has not been changed by that much.
APC is still a best trekking circuit destination and has many options on itinerary.
