Putha Hiunchuli Expedition is an attractive mountain that is located in the magical and mysterious land of Dolpo. This fascinating mountain rises in the north-west part of Nepal. It lies between the massifs of Dhaulagiri and Kanjiroba Himal as the mountain forms a part of Dhaulagiri Himalayan Ranges. It is also referred to as Dhaulagiri VI. The Putha Hiunchuli is a solitary and distinct mountain which is rarely climbed.

The mountain comprises relatively less technical difficulties compared to other technical mountain expeditions. However, good physical condition and previous peak climbing experience are highly recommended for the Putha Hiunchuli Expedition.
Mt. Putha Hiunchuli is one of the most beautiful mountain compare to other 7000m. high peaks of Nepal lies at western most peak of the Dhaulagiri range and is sometimes referred to as Dhaulagiri VII. It was first climbed in 1954 by Jimmy Roberts, a legendary explorer and climber. Mt. Dhaulagiri range is made up of some of the world’s most impressive peaks.
In this range, to the west of Annapurna South of Ganesh Himal, lies a long ridge at the end of which stands the serene Putha Hiunchuli. This mountain is the last 7000m. marking the end of the snow-capped range. Our trek begins at the trading town of Beni or from Juphal -Dunai, which is about a week’s walk away from the German Base Camp situated at an altitude of 4,525m. The landscape during the approach walk is as enchanting as it is unique: a mineral world made of high cliffs and deep canyons.
Putha Hiunchuli Expedition – Putha Hiunchuli is Located at an elevation of 7,246m, Mt. Putha Hiunchuli is one of the most stunning mountains of 7,000+m peaks in Dhaulagiri region and often called Dhaulagiri VII. The Putha Hiunchuli Expedition was first made by Jimmy Roberts in 1954. Putha Hiunchuli climbing is technically challenging with special effort, good fitness level along with previous climbing experience. It is the last 7,000m peak marking the end of the snow-capped range. To the west of Annapurna South and Ganesh Himal, a long ridge is located at the end which stands as stunning Mt. Putha Hiunchuli.

Putha Hiunchuli Expedition approaches the Northern route initiating from Juphal or from South starting from Beni Bazar. Each trekking route has its own charm and is beautiful in its own way. Putha Hiunchuli is usually climbed from the North or North-East wall. En route landscapes are incredible as its formation is unique, made of high cliffs and deep canyon.
Putha Hiunchuli climbing is challenging but so technically difficult. The sloping snow-wall hardly troubles the climber so it is feasible for any avid climbers who are in good physical shape and have previous alpine experience.

Although it is a relatively easier mountain to climb, Mt. Putha Hiunchuli is still a 7000 m+ mountain and nevertheless, it should be taken seriously and with utmost preparation. A very high level of physical fitness is required as it involves endurance climb at very high altitude and extremely low temperatures. Temperatures on summit day could be as low as -40 degrees Celsius.
Route to Putha hiunchuli expedition
The Putha Hiunchuli Expedition starts with the flight from Kathmandu to Nepaljung and Dolpo(Juphal) by flight and trek to Dunai. We then trek to Tarakot, Musikhola, Kagkot, Yak Kharka and Putha Himchuli Base Camp. Trek from The Base camp to Camp 1.

It is possible to ski from Camp1 to Camp 2. On the summit day, we head to the summit early in the morning at about 4 A.M. The climbing route is long from the Base camp and if the weather is clear, the ascent of Putha Himchuli. During the summit, mountaineers can see only a false summit from the route.
