Itinerary
Gosainkunda trekking can be done in 3 days but the easy itinerary for Gosainkunda trekking is 5 days from kathamndu to Kathmandu.
In distance Gosainkunda trek is about 40 to 50 kilometers. It is recommended to make 5 days itinerary for Gosaikunda lake trekking trip. This way you will not miss the scenery of the trek and it will not be rush trekking.
If you are okay with trekking uphill for 4 to 6 hours – Gosainkunda trek is easy. But if not – Gosainkunda trek is a medium type of trekking in Nepal.
You have to walk for more than 6 hours per day so as to complete the trekking in 5 days.
Apart from uphill and downhill killing your leg – Gosainkunda lake trekking do not have any technical section to walk through.
There are 3 major routes to get to Gosainkund Lake. You can drive to Dhunche bazzar and start trekking. Another – you can start trekking from Shivapuri national park at Sundarijal village. 3rd route is connected with Langtang valley trekking accessible from Thulo syapru village.
4380 meters is where the main lake of Gosainkunda is located. But there are other lakes higher and lower than that altitude.
The tea house near the Gosainkunda lake are at 4390 meters above the sea level.
It is recommended to take guide for your Gosaikunda lake trekking. You will be trekking through the jungle and some villages. If you hire a guide – all the accommodation and lunch time management will be done by guide and hence you will have stress free travel to Gosaikunda lake.

Gosainkunda is famous for numerous lakes. From religious point of view – these lakes of Gosainkunda are regarded as holy lake. It is believed that God shiva came to this place thirsty and used his trident to get the water through the hill. After pricking the mountain with his trident – the water came and collected to make the exiting pond.
Gosainkunda lake is also famous as frozen lake of Nepal. As in the winter Gosainkunda Lake Freeze and people can walk on top of the lake.
Also Gosainkunda lake trekking is famous for wide range of Himalaya seen from laurebinayak and suryakunda. You can see all the mountain range from this trek – Mt Everest range – Annapurna range – Manaslu range- Ganesh Himal range and Langtang range.
No. Gosaikunda Lake is a fresh water lake. According to Hindu mythology God shiva created this lake. But geographically – it can be seen that – the seepage of water from the glaciers above Gosainkunda region made this lake possible in this landscape.
It is measured 25.5 meters deep. However, Gosainkunda is not the deepest lake of Nepal.

Gosaikunda Hike Start Point and End Point
Gosaikunda hike will start from Kathmandu. 7 hours’ drive from Kathmandu will take you to Dhunche. During the drive you can witness the view of Mount Lirung and beautiful scenery around the surrounding area. The next day you will be hiking for 7 hours and reach Chandabari. The hike will be complete uphill through the jungle. You will be witnessing the approaching view of snow-capped mountains and beautiful greenery surrounding. Apart from this you will be exploring an old Buddhist monastery “Sing Gompa” on this day.

The 3rd day of your hike will take you to the holy lake Gosaikunda. 6 hours of hike following the view of mountains is special. You will witness Gosaikunda along with many other lakes. On the 4th day of your hike, you will get up early in the morning and hike Gosaikunda view point to watch the beautiful sunrise along with the view of mountains and lakes and trek back to Dhunche for 4 hours following the same trail but with a different perspective. The next day is the last day of your trek. On the last day you will be travelling back to Kathmandu with beautiful memories.
In which month Gosaikunda is highly recommended?
Mainly October and April are the months which are highly recommended for hikers to trek to Gosaikunda Lake. In these months, you can find the best surrounding view. During your hike, you will be supported to walk by the marvelous chirping of birds and fresh air of the surrounding. Trekking through rhododendron forest and a clear view of the surrounding along with the colorful river by side is eye-catchy and memorable. The temperature of the Gosaikunda area is also adjustable in these months. Reaching Gosaikunda and witnessing the blue water lake is the major attraction of Gosaikunda hike.
NOTE: If you want to witness frozen Gosaikunda Lake, then these months are not recommended for you to trek. Apart from these months, you can witness the frozen Gosaikunda Lake.
