Upper dolpo hike for 12 days

12 Days

Our Upper Dolpo hike begins with an extraordinary journey on a brief but mind-blowing flight to Nepalgunj from the bustling capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu, making it ideal for those looking for a bizarre and beautiful adventure.

Similar to that, you have another flight booked for the following day that will take you to Juphal. As you do this, you reach the Upper Dolpo hike entrance and have an odd feeling. You start your walk from Juphal to Dunai to Chhepka right away.

Hence, if you spend the night there, the altitude won’t have much of an impact on you. We arrive at Shey Phoksundo Lake, also referred to as the deepest lake in Nepal.

You can stroll around Shey Phoksundo’s tranquil, lush surroundings and then take a trail that leads to Kang La pass (5,375m). We also pass via the towns of Saldang, Sibu, Jeng La Phedi, and Tokyu Gaon by way of the Jeng La pass (5,150m).

The Mustang neighborhood to the east illustrates that it is in a rain-shadowed location. This region experiences little rain and is mostly dry. The Snow Leopard, a novel by Peter Matthiessen that is still well-known today, introduced and made famous the path that we follow on this trek.

A 45-minute flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj precedes the trek, which begins the next morning in Jhupal. The Numa La pass (5,190m/17,028ft) and numerous massive mountain ranges are crossed on the trail before arriving at Phoksundo Lake in Ringmo hamlet, which is located inside Phoksundo National Park.

One can continue on the trek and cross other passes to reach Jumla after taking a day off. The ancient, breathtaking scenery, the captivating Shey Phoksundo lake, the remote Ringmo settlements, and the centuries-old monasteries are the trek’s key highlights.
