Overview
Champadevi is a hill located south of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. It is a popular hiking destination for both locals and tourists, offering scenic views of the surrounding mountains and the city of Kathmandu.
The hill is named after the Hindu goddess Champa, and it is considered a sacred site by both Hindus and Buddhists. At the summit, there is a small temple dedicated to the goddess, where devotees come to offer prayers and perform rituals.
The hiking trail to Champadevi starts from the southern edge of the valley, near the town of Pharping. The trail is relatively easy at the beginning, but it becomes steeper and more challenging as it ascends towards the summit. The entire hike takes around 3-4 hours to complete.
Along the way, hikers can enjoy stunning views of the Himalayan range, including the peaks of Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and Everest. The trail also passes through dense forests and small villages, offering a glimpse into the local way of life.
Champadevi is a popular destination for day hikes, but some people also choose to camp overnight at the summit. It is important to note that the weather can be unpredictable, and hikers should come prepared with proper gear and clothing.
Best Time to do Champadevi Day Hike
Hiking in Champadevi is possible throughout the year. In fact, each season offers a variety of experiences that are unique and pleasing.

GEARLIST ACCORDING TO SEASONS
Clothing/Equipment/Gear for Champadevi Day Hike Kathmandu
Kathmandu Valley is surrounded by beautiful hill stations around its perimeter. So it is of no surprise that Kathmandu is really popular for day hikes. Champadevi is the third highest hill surrounding Kathmandu Valley located at an altitude of 2285 meters above sea level.
To help you pack efficiently, we have prepared a gear list for Champadevi Hike based on seasons. Nepal has four primary seasons:-
Winter: Winter in Nepal falls in January and February. It starts getting cooler after Christmas. The temperature is usually 0-4°C in the morning, 10-12°C at noon, and -1 to 0°C at night. So if you are planning to hike here any time after Christmas to the end of February then we suggest you wear long-sleeved t-shirts, hoodies or sweater/fleece, windproof and preferably waterproof jackets because of temporary snowfall during winter.
Similarly, we suggest wearing beanies/hats, gloves, trousers, sports shoes/hiking hoots, and thermals if you prefer an extra layer of warmth. Carrying a water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, and hiking poles would be ideal.
Spring: March to May are spring in Nepal. The temperature in these months during the morning ranges from 10-12°C, 22-24°C at noon, and 14-16°C at night. Since the weather is pleasant during spring, apart from the basic essentials mentioned below, all you need is some casual shirts, shorts or trousers, a couple of long sleeves, sports shoes/hiking boots, a water bottle, sunscreen, sun hat/cap, sunglasses, and an overall/light jacket because it might get a bit chilly at the top.
Summer/Monsoon: June, July, August, and September are summer months in Nepal. But we have a summer monsoon that occurs from Mid-June to Mid-September. The temperature of Kathmandu ranges from 18-20 °C in the morning, 28-32°C at noon, and 16-18°C at night. We do not suggest you hike while raining but apart that that, Summer Hiking in Phulchowki is ideal too.
So, besides the regular items mentioned below, casual cotton wears, sunglasses, a sun hat/cap, an umbrella, or a raincoat are some essentials for the summer. Because this hike takes place in a lush forest, there might be some leeches if it rains the previous night. These leeches aren’t harmful but might cause nuisance so the trick is to carry salt and if leeches try and stick to your body then you could sprinkle salt.
Autumn/Fall:Â October, November, and December are autumn in Nepal. It is the best time for the Phulchowki hike due to the delightful weather and visibility of beautiful vistas seen along the way and from the hilltop.
The temperature of Phulchowki during fall ranges from 8-10 °C in the morning, 22-25°C at noon, and 5-7°C at night. December is comparatively cooler than the other two months.
While hiking around Kathmandu during fall, you would be good to go with fleece/sweater or hoodies, hat/beanie, shawl/scarf, trousers, long-sleeved shirts, light jackets, or overalls, a water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, and hiking boots or sports shoes.

The trekking at the different parts of Nepal will be different according to the distance of the trekking destinations. Generally, there are different places where one can go for short and long trekking takes generally about 1 to 4 weeks or more week also. But in city places the trekking will be short and the trekking towards the base camp of the high hills will be generally long.
In Nepal, generally we can do two types of trekking. In the tea houses trekking, we will do the trekking by resting the night at the lodges or the tea houses at different places of the trekking trails. The tea houses trekking at Nepal will be comfortable than the camping trekking because the trekkers should not have to take any tensions regarding the accommodation and foods. But besides the tea houses trekking, camping trekking in Nepal is also equally popular. The camping trekking will be based on the trekking where the night will be resting at the camps, where we will set up our camps at the different parts of the trekking trails for our convenience. We will have our meals at the camps and will rest the night at camps. As compared to the lodging trekking, camping trekking is a bit difficult.
While trekking in Nepal, meals are prepared in tea houses, good standards of hygiene, fruit and vegetable soaked in iodine water before cooked. The food along the trail will be simple and a mix of local and international cuisine. If the trekking is camping trekking, then the trekkers will mainly be served with the local foods of Nepal and as well as continental and western foods. Due to the lack of electricity and refrigerators along our trekking route you will eat a largely vegetarian diet. In Kathmandu you will find meals in good quality tourist restaurants. Most of lodges serve boiled and filter water which is safe. It is possible to buy the bottle of mineral water in the trek
While visiting to Nepal, trekking guides is almost mandatory to trekking in Nepal for everyone. When you hired one your trip will lot more informative and memorable.
