More Information About 14 Days Upper Mustang trekking
The Upper Mustang trekking is the ultimate gateway to the mysterious world of the old Buddhist kingdom of Mustang, also called Lo. Once forbidden and isolated from the rest of the world for decades, the area was able to evolve within its own distinctive culture and rich traditions closely tied to Tibet. This moderate, lesser-known trek passes through one of the driest regions of Nepal and provides spectacular mountain scenery.
Mustang—commonly referred to as ‘Upper Mustang’—is an arid river valley that runs north-south off the upper corner of the Annapurna Circuit. Both culturally and geographically, it’s more similar to Tibet than Nepal and used to form its own kingdom, with its capital in Lo Manthang. Lying in the rain shadow of the Himalaya, and officially one of Nepal’s restricted regions, this trek is known for its desert beauty and harsh, cliff-faced landscapes.
The Kingdom of Mustang, commonly known as Lo, is reached through a winding path on the Upper Mustang trekking. This isolated trans-Himalayan mountain region, which borders Tibet, has a very Tibetan feel to it, both in terms of its inhabitants and their culture as well as in terms of the parched landscape’s tall cliffs and unusually shaped and colored rocks.
The walk passes through Kagbeni, the entrance of Upper Mustang, and continues across a desolate environment under the Dhaulagiri massif’s rain shadow to Lo-Manthang, the former capital of the Kingdom of Lo. The hike is quite strenuous due to the dry air and quite high altitude (3,000 to 3,800 meters).
Visit the caverns, rock art, monasteries, and gompas to discover more about the local culture. This thrilling journey definitely includes panoramic vistas of the Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and other mountains.
Upper Mustang trekking difficulty
This relatively difficult climb to Upper Mustang necessitates careful packing and preparation. The area has extensive trails and high-altitude terrain. This trek’s routes are quite difficult because you will cross over 3500 meters. Trekkers must therefore possess the necessary strength, endurance, and stamina to successfully complete the walk.
This walk is great for a fantastic trekking adventure because it has fewer difficulties. In comparison to other popular hikes, the paths are generally secure and simple. But there are some uphill stretches on this journey that you must climb.
Because to its remoteness and the high cost of the restricted area permit, the Upper Mustang trek is often more expensive than other trekking locations in Nepal. Remembering that solo trekking is prohibited in Upper Mustang will also be of assistance. As a result, you must always have a qualified guide with you while on the journey.
Best time to go to Upper Mustang trekking
The summer is regarded as the greatest time to visit Upper Mustang Trek because you can take in the breathtaking mountain views, picturesque sceneries, and ideal weather.
The best months to go trekking are May and September if you want to experience some of the distinctive festivities. The community there celebrates the Tiji festival, which takes place every year in May and features dancing monks dressed in vibrant garb. Yarlung is a highly unique festival that takes place in early September and features horse racing. Visitors and trekkers can enjoy watching this event.
