Tsum Valley
Tsum Valley is considered as one of the few villages trekking route in Nepal which is completely isolated from modern developments. Tsum valley lies in the Tsum Nubri Rural Municipality in northern Gorkha, Nepal – connected with the Tibetan boarder via Dhojhyang pass.

Tsum valley saw the first trekkers in 2007 when it was formally opened for trekking and tourism activity by Nepal government. The remoteness of Tsum is still untouched and beautiful with panorama of the mountains and jungle trekking. Tsum valley lies in Gorkha district and comprises two remote villages called Chumchet and Chhekampar. Chhekampar village is the Upper Tsum valley while Chumchet is the Lower Tsum.
‘Tsum’ is the Tibetan terminology which is ‘Tsombo’ in Tibetan, which means vivid. People living in Tsum Valley are called Tsumbas.
Tsumbas called Yeti as Mehti and those Yetis were often seen by people of Tsum valley. It is still believed that the Yaks of locals in Tsum valley were taken care by Yeti in the past. People believes; Yeti still exists in the region but it is unexplored or unfound yet.
Tsum valley is a very distinct place geographically and culturally. In the past history this valley has had thirteen provinces and was ruled as a single territory. Tsum valley region is so unexplored that many religious and archeological relics are still intact at many places in Tsum. People in Tsum Valley still practise polyandry system. Their unique culture, tradition and a dialect of their own will surprise tourist. Lhosar, Dhacyhang, Saka Dawa, Faning are major festival of the region among many other.
Tsum Valley is speeded in an area of about 1663 km2. Lowest point of Tsum Valley trek will be Lokpa at 1905 meter / 6248 feet and the highest is Ngula Dhojhyang Pass (over 5095 meter / 37206 feet) on the Nepal-Tibetan border. The Hidden Valley of Tsum is surrounded by the Baudha Himal and Himal Chuli to the west, Ganesh Himal to the south, and Sringi Himal to the North.
Tsum valley is rich in ancient art & artifacts, culture and religion which date back centuries old. Local people in Tsum valley are mostly of Tibetan origin and speak unique dialect which comes modifies from Tibetan dialects in the past. Trekking trails are strewn with old traditional chortens and divided with mani walls with beautiful painting and stone carving. Religious structures made of thousands of stone slabs carved with drawings of deities and inscribed with prayers are source of archeological findings in Nepal – which has not been explored much. The famous Kyimu Lung, a pilgrimage circuit in the central Trans-Himalaya, well known for its center of learning and meditation also goes along the Tsum Valley the Manaslu area in Nepal, and southern parts of Tibet.
Himalayan Thar and Blue Sheep which congregates in herds of 50 to 200 are some of the often seen wildlife of the region. Rachen Gumba and Mu Gumba, Gumba Lungdang in upper Tsum valley region are famous and sacred places of the region. Volunteering to explore the depth of the hidden valley has been found where one can volunteer for one week in local school, health posts and clean-up campaign.
