Kongma la pass
One of the famous 3 high passes trek – “Kongmala pass” comes either first or at the last while doing Everest basecamp with three high passes trek. Kongma la pass is less trekked pass among 3 high passes of Everest.
Kongma la pass connects Chhukung village of Imja valley with Lobuche village near Khumbu glacier. The highest altitude of Kongma la pass at 5555 meters or 18220 feet above the sea level is the highest altitude trekkers attain while trekking 3 high passes with Everest base camp trek in the region.

Either starting trek near Chhukung village or getting exit near Lobuche village “Kongma la pass” has stunning view of the myriad landscape or the snowcapped mountains. From the top of Kong ma la you can see 2 major lakes whereas frequent moving glacier has made trek beautiful with more lakes and changed geology. View of Everest is blocked by Mt Lotse but the view of Mt Makalu, Mt Amadablam and many other peaks from Everest and Makalu range is stunning.
Kongma la pass can be adventurous in winter season. But in the spring and autumn trekking over Kongma la is just an small extra challenge on top of Everest base camp trek. Trekking route of Kongma la pass is rocky and route is tricky – thus trekking over the pass independently is not recommended.
