Chola pass
Among many high passes in Nepal Himalaya – Chola pass is a unique and hence famous trekking pass. Located at 5420 meter or 17778 feet above the sea level, Chola pass is technical trekking pass among three famous high passes of Everest.

Chola pass Connects Everest base camp trekking route with Gokyo Valley. The lakes of Gokyo are famous all over the world. Cascade pattern of 6 lakes of Gokyo are not just beautiful but tell about glacial lake. And hence researchers visit often to these lakes for glaciology research in Nepal.
Everest base camp lies in Khumbu Valley’s end; and after crossing this range through Chola pass trekkers get to Gokyo region. This Chola pass is famous for Everest base camp Gokyo valley trek also called Everest basecamp Chola pass trekking in Everest. And also, this is 2nd pass of Everest 3 high pass trek.
Thangnak and Dzongla are villages as base for Chola pass crossing. Both these villages are with very few tea houses and the settlement is smaller in comparison to other destinations of Everest region trekking. Normally people trek Everest base camp first and go over Chola pass to get to Gokyo valley. But some trekkers do cross Chola pass from Gokyo side.
Comparatively trekking over Chola pass from Gokyo side is regarded as harder as it involves steep climb towards the summit of Chola pass. And after getting to the top of Chola pass, trekking over icy part will be downhill trek. Walking downhill in steep chuck of ice is hard and sometimes needs rope.
Trekking Chola pass from Everest base camp side is easier as this side climb splits the Chola pass summit in two different sections and is beautiful. From this side the first top of Chola pass has overwhelming scenery which will make trekkers to forget the pain of climbing half way of Chola pass summit. Mt Amadablam standing tall to the far and the river valley with infinite mountain range looks awesome.
