Mardi Himal trek is a less visited and shorter trekking option in the Annapurna region, and the shortest base camp trek in Nepal. On this trek you will stay overnight in local guest houses and trek through the forests towards the no-tree line. Eventually, into the lap of Mardi Himal, base camp while enjoying the great views of Mt. Machhapuchhre, wide South Annapurna, and many other peaks along the way.

You’ll be able to witness the majestic sunrise and sunset over Mt. Fistail, and follow the same color spectacle hitting South Annapurna and Mardi Himal. Best Seasons to Trek Mardi Himal

  • Autumn (mid-September to late November)

Autumn season is regarded as the peak season for trekking in Nepal and this season is also regarded as the best season to trek to Mardi Himal. In this season, you can watch the eye-appealing views of sunrise and sunset where the sky is also clear. You can see the wide snow-capped mountain ranges clearly.

And the chance of rainfall in this season is very low which will provide you ease during your trek. In autumn morning & night temperature is around 10 – 15 degree Celsius, whereas sunny day temperature is around 20 degree or above.

  • Spring (early March to late May)

This season is also regarded as another best season to trek Mardi himal. In this season, the sky will be clear and blue and the nature is outstanding with blooming of flowers (especially rhododendron flower in this time of the year looks awesome); you can find eye-appealing views of greenery around you, the clear mountain ranges, and the colorful rhododendron forest.

In spring morning & night temperature is around 10 degree Celsius, whereas sunny day temperature is around 20 degree or above.

  • Monsoon (early June to mid-August)

Monsoon season is regarded average season to trek Mardi Himal. In this season, you cannot find the best views where the sky all day along. Clouds will cover the bluew sky, often & is seen dark and you also can’t find the best view of mountains. In this season the rainfall is frequent in the afternoon, like every day. But sometimes, you can find the best view of nature with clear surrounding followed by the heavy rainfall.

However, traffic of trekker is negligible and the entire trail will be yours, in peaceful environment trekking will be fun thing. Also the nature will be with flowers and greenery, which will make trekking trail as a wild garden.

In Monsson morning & night temperature is around 8 – 15 degree Celsius, whereas sunny day temperature is around 15 degree or above.

  • Winter (early December to mid-February)

In winter season Mardi himal becomes very cold with high chance of snow fall and you will find everything frozen at this time. Winter trekking to Mardi himal can be difficult because the trail may be covered with chunk of snow, where mini spikes will be mandatory. However, you also will find the clear views of mountains.

For the small amount of time, the mountains will be covered with fog and for most of the time surrounding greenery around you will be covered with snow. In winter morning & night temperature is around 0 – 8 degree Celsius, whereas sunny day temperature is around 12 degree Celsius or above.


During Mardi Himal Trek, you will get an accommodation in the hotel, lodges and teahouse as per the destination you are going to stay. You will be staying at the hotel which includes B&B plan in Kathmandu and Pokhara. And when you left Pokhara and start your trek, you will get an accommodation in the tea house with basic facilities and services, your guide will be your waiter because of circumstances.

If you are trekking in the spring and autumn season the price for accommodation will be high because these seasons are the peak season of Mardi himal trek. But in monsoon and winter season; you can find the accommodation cheaper comparatively and the environment/ (trekking trail) will also be peaceful in monsoon & winter season, because in this time, there are less people in the trek.

Despite of these two places (Kathmandu and Pokhara) with better facilities, you have to adjust yourself in other places, like in the tea house with shared room accommodations or local lodge with very basic facility. In high altitude destination, where there is difficulty to build the best hotels, you can only find teahouses or local lodge.

During your stay at teahouses, you will only offer with basic services. But the food can be ordered as per your choice from the menu, food in the menu will be similar in most of the tea houses, however. You will surely get an experience of Nepal’s teahouse during your trek. Nothing much, but you will carry lifetime memories at last.

Mardi Himal trek Difficulty

Mardi Himal trek falls under moderate trekking in Nepal within Annapurna Conservation Area. This trek will be easier for trekkers to trek in Mardi himal trekking route, in comparison to other trekking areas of Nepal. Mardi himal trek doesn’t take lots of time; it can be completed in 5-9 days where 2-3 days will be spend on transportation or flight.

So, this short duration of the trekking period can be benefit to the trekkers, for not using their effort much.

Experience trekkers will find this trekking easy but beginner trekkers can find mardi himal trekking a little bit difficult, however. Because for the experience trekkers it will not be so much problem to walk 5-6 hours a day and to walk in uphill or steep downhill terrain.

The beginner trekkers can face problem to walk 5-6 hours a day and to climb uphill. It doesn’t mean that it will be going to be very difficult for beginners, but just being honest that you need to walk more than 6 hours in a day and there are uphill and downhill into the dense jungle of the Mardi trekking trail.

You don’t have to walk continuously 5-6 hours without break, you will find the rest point after every 1:30 hours of your walk from where you can revive your energy.

What are the factors that are included in Mardi Himal Trek Cost, in general?

  • Trekking Permit & TIMS

The permit is needed to enter inside Annapurna Conservation Area. The permit cost is approximately USD 30 (NPR 3000) per person per entry for foreign citizen and NPR 200 per person per entry for SAARC nationals. Mardi himal trek route is inside the Annapurna Conservation Area. TIMS is another permit that trekkers need to buy for trekking in Mardi Himal trek. TIMS costs USD 10 per person.

  • Number of Days

Your trekking days also affect the Mardi himal trek cost; number of days you choose for your trek. If you choose less days the price will be ultimately low in comparison to choosing of longer trekking days. You will also have to pay fee for everything included in the cost & the service, as per day basis of your trekking.

  • Accommodation, Food and Season

Accommodation and food cost of the trek changes as per the season. In spring and autumn season the cost of the accommodation and food is expensive in comparison to monsoon and winter season in Mardi himal trek.   • Guide and Porter

The company has to employ license guide and porter for Mardi himal trek. The fee for the guide is about USD 30-50 per day and the fee for the porter is USD 20-30 per day. The more your trekking days, the more you have to pay the fee of guide and porter.

  • Transportation

Transportation also affects the cost of Mardi Himal trekking. Transportation includes airport pick up and drop off in car, flight or drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara and vice-versa, drive from Pokhara to Kande, drive from Sidding to Pokhara and Vice-versa. Mardi Himal Base camp trek Itinerary

Day 1
Welcome to Nepal on arrival

• Altitude – 1380 meters
• Time – 30 minutes hotel transfer time
• Activity – Relax at hotel

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu; our office representative will assist you to your hotel. Pre-trip meeting and briefing about your detailed schedule of Mardi Himal Trek.

Day 2
Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara by tourist bus.

• Altitude – 1400 meters
• Special – Scenic view from bus
• Time – 8 hours
• Activity – Travelling in bus and Relax at hotel

It takes about 8 hours to get to Pokhara by bus; there will be three stops during the scenic journey. If you do not want to go by bus, there is an option to take a 22 minutes flight to Pokhara airport. Please let us know in advance, if you opt for the flight.

Day 3
Drive from Pokhara to Kande by private vehicle and trek to Deurali via the Australian camp.

• Altitude – 2100 meters
• Special – Austalian Camp
• Time – 4/5 hours
• Activity – Travelling in private vehicle and trekking

From Pokhara we will head towards Phedi where we will start the trek. We will first trek to the Australian camp (2060m), then slightly downhill to Pothana (1950m) and the ACAP / TIMS checkpoint, then up again to Deurali (2100m). Australian camp is nice and beautiful, providing scenic views of the mountains. The camp got its name from a group of Australian students that camped in this place during their trip in 70’s. Previously the place used to have a different name, “Bhaisi Kharka”, which means buffalo grazing field.

Day 4
Deurali to Low Camp (3000m)

• Altitude – 3000 meters
• Special – greenery and diverse landscapes
• Time – 4 hours
• Activity – Trekking uphill

From Deurali we will be walking through the forest on the ridge of the hills with the view over beautiful green landscapes on our way to Low Camp. Trail is small and quiet, you will be able to hear chirping of the birds, also monkey sightings are common.

Day 5
Low Camp to High Camp (3500m)

• Altitude – 3500 meters
• Special – View of snow-capped mountains
• Time – 5/6 hours
• Activity – Trekking uphill through jungle trail

Sunrise and sunset views of Mount Machhapuchhre, a.k.a. Fishtail, and Mardi from Low Camp are perfect, so waking up early for sunrise would be a suggested start for this day. After a steep walk from Low Camp the trail takes us through the jungle along with occasional glimpses of Annapurna South, until we reach Rest Camp (3170m). View of the Ghandruk village in far sight is really beautiful. Once you get to the Rest Camp, the jungle trekking converts to a no-tree zone. Views of Annapurna south, Fishtail and Mardi herself are amazing.

Day 6
High Camp (3550m) to Mardi Base Camp 4500m

• Altitude – 4500 meters
• Special – eye-catchy view of snow-capped mountains
• Time – 5/6 hours
• Activity – Trekking uphill to Mardi basecamp and downhill while returning to High camp

Open ridge with spectacular views of Machhapuchhre ahead and stunning view of the surrounding mountains like Annapurna South and Mardi herself is amazing. You may start early today, but big breakfast is on demand for today’s ascent to Mardi Himal base camp. Walking over the tree line is nice with all the flowers around and yaks passing by. Be careful walking in the steeper part; follow your guide and his instructions. Pokhara valley, Annapurna base camp, and river George seen on the way are truly mesmerizing.

Day 7
Trek from High Camp to Sidding.

• Altitude – 1750 meters
• Special – Chirping of birds in the trail
• Time – 6 hours
• Activity – completely dowhill trek along with jungle trail

Trekking down from High Camp to Sidding is mostly downhill towards the forest. Nice forest walk and mountains peeking out time and again make today’s journey enjoyable. Chirping of birds is relaxing but keeps your eyes open for occasional animal sightings in the jungle.

Day 8
Sidding to Pokhara by jeep and half day sightseeing tour of Pokhara valley

• Altitude – 1400 meters
• Special – pokhara city tour
• Time – 2 hours drive and half day sightseeing
• Activity – Travelling in Jeep and sightseeing tour at Pokhara

This is the last day of Mardi Himal base camp trek in Nepal. We will take jeep from Sidding village and will get to Pokhara before noon. On arrival at pokhara lake side we will check in to the hotel and do the sightseeing tour of pokhara. Pokhara is famous for cultural and anthropology tour, you will get to know about Nepal from this day tour. The tour will be guided in a private car.

Day 9
Drive to Kathmandu

• Altitude – 1380 meters
• Special – Scenic view from bus
• Time – 8 hours
• Activity – Travelling in bus and Relax at hotel

8 hours of drive to Kathmandu from Pokhara is by the highway along the riverside. We will pass by jungles and many riverside resorts. We will get to see many rafting adventure ongoing on the river which we drive by the side.
