Annapurna south is in the range of 55 km long massif in the Himalayas, seen from Ghorepani & Poon hill. Annapurna south expedition takes to the highest point seen in Annapurna range, the summit of Annapurna south stands at 7273m. Annapurna is located in the east of a great gorge cut through the Himalaya Mountains by the Kali Gandaki River, which separates it from the Dhaulagiri range. This gorge is the deepest himalayan gorge on earth.

Annapurna is a Sanskrit name which literally means “full of food” (feminine form), but is normally translated as Goddess of the Harvests. In Hinduism, Annapurna is a goddess of fertility and agriculture and an avatar of Durga.
The entire Annapurna range and surrounding area are protected within the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the first and largest conservation area in Nepal, established in 1986 by the Nepal Trust for Nature Conservation. The Annapurna Conservation Area is home to several world-class treks, including the Annapurna Circuit, ABC, Tilicho lake trek, Mustang trek.
Annapurna south face base camp is situated at 4000 meter and the advance base camp is on the west bank of the glacier between Annapurna south and mount Hiunchuli. Climbing up to the glacier is a little bit difficult for gullies on all sides.

The camp 1 of Annapurna south expedition is fixed at the 5000 meter, Camp-2 at 5970meter; and camp 3 is at 6400 meter high. From Camp 3 the summit can be made. Climbing Annapurna south seems easy from North East route of side.
Annapurna South(7220m) lies in the heart of the Annapurna Himal and has very close view of numerous mountains, which includes Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II (7,937m), Annapurna III (7,555m), Annapurna IV (7,525m), Gangapurna (7,454m), Annapurna South (7,220m). However, climbers can see other peaks from Makalu, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri and Everest range as well.

Trek & climbing route for Annapurna south

Preparation for Annapurna south expedition begins from Kathmandu & Pokhara. We travel to Pokhara via private coach and then we stay overnight at Pokhara. The next day we drove to Dhampus, and then our trek started at Pothana, a temperate region of forested hillsides like Magar and Gurung villages, from where the trekking route of Annapurna South expedition continues.
After reaching Ghandruk, Tadapani & Kopra pasture, our campsite remains right below the South face of Mt. Annapurna. With the amazing high altitude trekking experience, we set up the Base Camp for climbing to Mt. Annapurna South there. After basecamp to all other higher camps the route we follow will be safe and as per the site condition.
