Mera is designated as a trekking peak by the Nepal Mountaineering Association. The climbing part to the summit is technically moderate and previous peak climbing skills and experience are not needed. However, it is recommended to have some previous experience in high-altitude trekking before taking on this trek.

Starting from Lukla, the trek follows a main trekking trail of Everest region; it does not follow the Everest Base Camp Trail. Mera Peak reaches 6474 meters above sea level, but due to the changes in the ice-cap for environmental reasons, the height of the peak is different in the Northern, Central and Southern summits.

    Itinerary of Mera peak climbing Package

    On arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, our office representative will assist you to your hotel. Pre-trip meeting briefing you detail schedule of Mera Peak Climbing in your favorable time.

    Flight time to Lukla is about 30 minutes and then we will trek towards Paiya where we will stay the night at the altitude of 2730m above sea level. Trekking is about 3 to 4 hours.

    We will trek about 5 to 6 hours following the main trail to reach the altitude of 2850m above sea level. Stay the night in Pangom.

    Trekking along the main trail will be interesting as we begin to see the glorious views of the surroundings. The night will be in Shibuche at the altitude of 2745m above sea level. Trekking is about 4 – 5 hours.

    Trekking will continue for about 7 to 8 hours along the main trail. The night will be in Chetrakhola, at 3150m.

    Trek about 6 to 7 hours to Kothe, pass by the great view of the high hills and the beautiful surrounding mountains. We will stay in Kothe at the altitude of 3600m.

    Trek to Thangnag, approximately 3 to 4 hours. Overnight at the altitude of 4350m above sea level

    2 to 3 hours trekking along the main trail, the night will be in Khare at the altitude 5045m above sea level.

    Trekking is about 3 to 4 hours to reach the base camp of Mera Peak. We will spend the night in tents at the base camp, at the altitude of 5300m.

    Trekking will get tougher as we have to pass through the rough trekking trail, which will take us about 4 to 5 hours on the rough surface. The night will be at the high camp, at the altitude of 5780m above sea level.

    After an early morning start it will take us about 5 to 6 hours to reach the Mera Peak summit at the altitude of 6461m above sea level. We will take a moment to celebrate our achievement and marvel the sunrise and the glorious views of the surrounding mountains from the summit. Trekking back to Khare for the night

    This hike follows by a river valley and goes along the no tree line zone of Mera peak climbing itinerary. From Khare we can see the summit of Mera peak, however after summit Mera Khote looks way down at the end of no tree line valley.
    Kahre to Khote is gentle walk downhill through Thangnak village.

    Kothe to Thuli kharka takes us back to the jungle and once we get near to thuli kharka tree disappear. This is an interesting walk in Mera peak climbing itinerary of Nepalgram.
    Thuli Kharka is a peaceful village. Literal meaning of Thuli Kharka is big meadow for yak shed.

    We trek up and over Chhetrla today. The hike along the route of Thuli Kharka to Lukla is in no tree line zone at the beginning of the trek and towards the end we will get inside the jungle near Lukla.
    From the top of Chhetr la we can see Lukla very close, but it is still half way.

    Short and scenic flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla will conclude our journey to Mera peak climbing. 25 minutes flight back from Lukla will take us to Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.

    1) How hard is it to climb Mera Peak?

    Climbing Mera Peak requires excellent physical conditioning and you need to be training months in advance of your climb. You will have a long and challenging trek into Khare 4,950m/ 16,240 feet and Mera Peak Base Camp 5,350m/ 17,552 feet, which will require you to have come with a lot of previous hiking experience.

    Mera Peak is a mountain in the Mahalangur section, Barun sub-section of the Himalaya and administratively in Nepal’s Sagarmatha Zone, Sankhuwasabha.

    3) Can you climb Mera Peak without a guide?

    Yes, Mera Peak is a non-technical high-altitude trekking peak. To reach summit 6476M you do not need any special climbing skills with ropes, gears, and use of an ice axe. Mera Peak is a very popular destination for clients with little or no mountaineering experience.

    4) Is Mera Peak harder than Island Peak?

    The trek into Mera Peak is harder than the trek into Island Peak with more elevation gain up and down on the trail. The lodges and facilities are more basic than the Everest region

    At 6476m it is a high mountain that requires little technical climbing on its normal route. Our guided trip is 21 days long starting from arrival in Kathmandu to the earliest date of departure home. The actual trekking and climbing days is 16 which includes two summit days.
