The trekking trail to the Gokyo Ri initially follows the same trail as the Everest basecamp trek up to Thukla. It is a junction between EBC Dusa valley and Gokyo Valley.

But if you choose to trek Gokyo ri first, the trial separates at Sanasa then separates again into Gokyo valley after Mongla pass. You can enjoy captivating sights of Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and Mt. Khumbila from Mong la pass. During the journey, trekkers will walk past the ethnically historic village settlement of Dole, Macchermo, Gokyo, Longpongo Lake (4690m). Trekking along the Ngozumpa glacier moraine is amazing, until you arrive at the final destination of the trip, Gokyo Peak/Gokyo Ri.

Kathmandu to lukla and hike to phakding – common between EBC trek and Gokyo trek

You will proceed to the domestic airport in kathmandu or in Ramechhap, with your trek group to catch your plane to Lukla, which is in the lower Khumbu region. Set off on a hike up the Dudh Koshi to the 2,700-meter Cheplung and Ghat (2,530m). We next proceed on a delightful hour-long stroll to the little settlement of Phakding. Some people also stay at Tok tok or further to Manjo. Benkar is nice place to stay after Phakding and Toktok. There are enough tea houses in Benkar and Manjo; as is in Phakding. Most of people stop at Phakding.

The following day, we will traverse small rivers and hike through a pine forest along the Dudh Koshi river to the Sherpa villages of Benkar (2,710m), Chumoa (2,820m), Mono (2,840m), and Jorsale (2,830m). Your permits will be checked by national park security (Nepalese army)at jorsale. Take in the view of Thamserku (6,618m), which is directly to the village’s east.

This is the trek’s first planned acclimatization. We advise taking at least 24 hours off to allow your body to adjust to the thin air. Be active. Go high and sleep low. Visit Namche to see one of the restaurants, bakeries, cyber cafes, pubs, and a vibrant market (on Friday night and Saturday morning). Additionally, stroll to the visitor center of Sagarmatha National Park to see the educational exhibits about Sherpa culture and the surrounding flora and fauna.

The five-hour trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4,200 m.) takes us through the Imja Valley’s lush forest. The vistas get increasingly better and more distinct as we ascend. We ascend by foot to Pangboche (3,985 meters), where there is a historic monastery. We continue walking till we reach the charming walled hamlet of Dingboche. You can find a barricade defending the crops from yaks and freezing winds.

A challenging begins with a steady ascent to Thukla top. From Thukla Village, we must ascend a hard hill to reach the substantial stone piles constructed as monuments to illustrious mountaineers and Sherpas who perished while climbing Everest.

We will enter the Khumbu Glacier area and go down the Lobuche trail (4,910m). Thukla has 3 houses and Lobuche has more than 6 hotels. Lobuhe has a bakery. Claimed to be Bakery at the highest altitude in the earth.

The long moraine of Glacier is crossed on the trekking route to reach Gorakshep, the last of Khumbu villages. Drop your luggage at Gorakshep and have lunch there before continuing up to Everest Base Camp (5,364m).

The trail passes through areas with a lot of rocks, as well as moraines, streams, and glaciers. We eventually arrive at Everest Base Camp, which is surrounded by the Khumbu glacier and the Himalayas. Retrace your steps and spend the night at Gorakshep.

Grab your belongings from the hotel at Gorakshep, make your way down the moraine, and then continue on the trail as it circles Lobuche Peak and walks your through the Cholatse valley. Ypu will be hiking along the Chola lake before reaching to Zongla.

Today, you will separate your trail with everest base camp trekkers. Less people on the route. Peaceful but remote. Nice and close to the mountains. Tomorrow is the big day but not hard. Listen to your guide and your body.

The trial travels from Dzongla village towads the crampon point of Chola pass. After the flat walk in the valley of Dzongla is done, a 600-meter ascent begins with a hazardous scramble up rocks to the ridge’s low point, beyond which sits the spectacular Cho La Glacier’s snout.

The route then gradually turns west and ascends to Chola’s flag-draped pass. Summit gives a breathtaking Himalayan view. The peaks Kyajo Ri and Pharilapche are situated among others to the west. The massif Mahalangur range, which includes the peaks of Cho Oyu, Ngozumpa II and I, Ghaychung Kang, and Ngozumpa, is to the north.

Impressive Choatse and Ama Dablam are to the southeast. The trail to Tagna must be caused because it descends rapidly and includes ice and scree slopes on the approaches.

Cairns mark a path irregularly. The trail descends through grassy slopes after that to the summer village of Thangna.

Thangna to Gokyo ri trekking Lake

We ascend to its rim and descend the trail toward the ice that is covered in grayish rubble (which slows melting). Gokyo and Dudh Pokhari can be seen as the beautiful Cho Oyu rises in the background. To go to Cho Oyu, we stroll north of the settlement.

The largest sixth lake, ThonakTsho, is reached after an hour and a half of moderate ascent on the trek. Continue on to NgozumpaTsho and Scoundrel’s viewpoint, which is located on a small hill. From this vantage point, you can see Cho-Oyu, Ghyanchung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse up close. Return to Gokyo village, which is near the third lake’s edge.

To ensure seeing the sunrise over the Himalayas, get going before dawn. Short hike around the lake before the trail’s ascent to the Gokyo Ri.

The Mahalangur Himal, which contains Cho Oyu (8,201m), Ghyachyng Kang (7,952m), Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (98,516m), Nuptse (7,861m), and Makalu, is seen from the top (8,463m). After passing the initial Gokyo Lakes, we descend on a path that runs beside the Gokyo River. We are able to take in the breathtaking views of the Thamserku, Cho Oyu, and Kangtega mountains until we get to the chorten at the edge. Before arriving in the inviting village of Dole, we pass through Machhermo, Luza, and Lhafarma.

Trek from Dole to Namche Bazzar (3440 m) 5 hour. Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,800 m., 6-hours). Last day of Gokyo ri trekking is concluded with Lukla to Kathmandu, by flight.

To ensure witnessing the sunrise over the majestic Himalayas, it is recommended to start your trek before dawn. After a short hike around the picturesque Gokyo Lake, the trail begins its ascent to Gokyo Ri, offering panoramic views of the Mahalangur Himal, including renowned peaks like Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu.

Descending alongside the Gokyo River, you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring vistas of Thamserku, Cho Oyu, and Kangtega mountains until reaching the chorten at the edge. Passing through Machhermo, Luza, and Lhafarma, the trek continues from Dole to Namche Bazaar, followed by Namche Bazaar to Lukla. The last day concludes with a scenic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.
