Lukla airport & flight ticket
Lukla airport is the door to everest basecamp trek for fly in option. Lukla is 2860 meters (11,286 feet) above ocean level and is the beginning point for most of the people doing any of the trekking in Everest region. It is 25 minutes flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. The flight ticket cost for Kathamndu to Lukla one way is about $250.
If you have time enough for the trekking to Everest base camp – there is over land trekking option to trek to ebc. Doing overland ebc trek – you will skip the flights from Kathmandu lukla but will add at least 6 days in your trekking trip.
Kalapatthar
Kalapatthar is one of the highest trekking spot close to Mount Everest. People can hike up to this highest altitude near Gorakshep village to see stunning sunrise or sunset. From Kalapatthar – Mt Everest is around 10 KM always, thus the view from here is absolutely amazing.
From the summit of Kalapatthar, you can find incredible all-encompassing perspectives on Mt Everest, Lotshe and Makalu above 8000 meters. Whereas there are mote than 100s of moutnains below 8000 meters on sight and Mt Pumori will look crazy close from Kalapatthar top.

Some of the bad side of Kalapatthar in we season (winter & Monsoon) is mud, extreme dampness and slippery rocks. But if you are with guide or know how to walk steep downhills – this is not an issue for someone who are sleeping at Gorakshep 5200 meters.
Note it – Kalapatthar is a side trip from Gorakhshep – so either you do it for sunrise or sunset – make sure you are doing it in a clear day. Climbing a tall mountains inside a cloud do not give a damn view – we all know that. But strictly, I recommend you to do Kalapatthar if you are doing Everest base camp trek – Do not skip unless your body says so.
Altitude sickness – symptoms and preventive measures
Altitude sickness/Height ailment can cause cerebral pains, queasiness, dazedness, weakness and at times even costs life. While climbing to Everest Base Camp, you will be in the risk for AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness).

Peak season & off season
The “high season” for trekking and climbing in Everest region begins in April and finishes close to the furthest limit of September. However june & july are low season for trekking in Nepal. June & july are monsoon season in Nepal with lots of rain and clouded sky.
Everest summit trips starts around mid-March and ends in mid- May, that is why everest base camp trekking trail is crowded in this season. Thus, EBC trail alone is more busy during spring than in autumn. However, other trails of Everest like everest 3 high passes, Everest chola pass trekking route and Renjo la pass trekking are not as crowded as EBC trail even in the spring season.
whereas June to July and November to February are regarded as the off season in Everest.
Common itinerary & destinations of Everest base camp trekking trail where you spend the night
Phakding – the first night in your everest basecamp trip
Phakding is a small village by Dudhkoshi river. The color of the water in this river looks like milk – and hence it is named as Dudh koshi – Dudh meaning milk. Phakding is located 17,500 feet above sea level and famous for being at starting point (the first night) of first day in your Mt Everest trip.
Trekkers start their everest hiking by spending one night at Phakding before moving on to Namche. Bazaar.
Namche Bazzar – second night & 1st Acclimatization destination of EBC trek
Namche is also famous as Sherpas capital of Everest region. At 3340 meters above the sea level, Namche is oval shaped beautiful village facing Mt kongde. Being very close to the mountains, cold breeze of white mountains starts feeling from namche.
Your first acclimatization of EBC trek is at Namche. Namche has multi storey buildings, terrace cafes and lodges.
Spend your days wandering through the amaze of ancient Tibetan houses, temples and Namche monastery. Namche has luxury to very simple hotels. The hotels with indoor heating would cost more than USD 50$ per night.
Tengboche Monastery/Village – situated at 3870 meters
Tenboche is a village in the Khumbu region of Nepal on the trekking trail of Everest base camp trekking. Famous monastery of the region “Tengboche Monastery” can be visited during the trek. Tengboche monastery is close to Mount Everest and Namche Bazaar.
Tengobcohe is famous for easy trekking destination to do trekking Everest. Trekking like everest view trek or Everest panorama trekking returns from Tengboche, for soft trekking in Everest.
There are few famous trekking in Everest region till tengboche monastery. Everest view trek, Everest panorama trek, Tengboche trek.
All above stated trekking packages will take you till Tengboche view point. Doing this short trek avoids high altitude trekking for those who has low stamina with high altitude.
If you want soft trekking than Tengboche Namche trek can be an option. As Namche is at 3340 meters but Tengboche lies higher at 3870 meters from the sea level.
Tenboche is famous for one of the best view point of Everest without getting to Everest basecamp, Gokyo ri and Kalapatthar. There is a view point near Tengboche monastery from where you get the best view of Everest.
View of Mt Amadablam is also iconic & amazing from Tengboche village.
Tengboche monastery is also famous for famous festival of the Everest region like Mani Rimdhu festival. People from Nepal & abroad attend Mani Rimdhu festival at Tengboche monastery – every year.
Dingboche Village – second acclimatization stop for Everest base camp trekking
Dingboche sits at 4440 meters above sea level and it’s one of the old village of Khumbu region. You still can see those small thached houses with dry stone wall compunded village on the lap of the Himalaya.
Dingboche is near to Glacier, Glacial lake and gateway to Chhukung. Chukkung village is base camp fro Island peak climbing.
Dingbcohe is the perfect place to acclimatize and choose side trip options from many of them.
It is one of the best locations for side hiking in the area, as there are trails that lead up to Mt. Chhukung Ri (6,349 meters), famous Nangkarsang peak, Amadablam glacial lakes, Chola lake and Cholatse glacier.Village is surrounded by snow capped mountains.

Dingboche village itself offers many opportunities for trekkers to go sightseeing into the small village, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and try local foods in one of the restaurants or cafes around it. There are many cafes with Bakery in Dingboche village.
All the trekkers doing any of the Everest base camp region trekking spend second acclimatization night after their first one at Namche village.
Lobuche village on the lap of Mt Lobuche famous as Lobuche peak
Lobuche follows the path along the famous and longest Khumbu glacier. Khumbu Glacier is active glacier of Mt. Everest Base Camp.
Lobuche is at the perfect view point of Mt Nuptse without the view of Khumbu glacier. At Lobuche you can spend the night in a lodge with spectacular views of sunset at Mt Nuptse. This is a superb introduction to the mountains around Everest, but you do not see Mt everest from Lobuche village.
Although you are not able to see mount everest from Lobuche village. However, sunset and sunrise view at Mt Nuptse is amazing.
Gorakshep – the last village on everest base camp trekking trail
GorakShep is located on the main trekking trail in the valley part in between Chumbu and Khumbu glacier. Ghorakshep has been a village with tea houses & cute steelement in the valley.
Valley is Surrounded by wide and huge glaciers there are 4 tea houses and cafes. The hotels/tea house itself has a homey feel with a dining room with fire place so as to keep the cold under control.
Standing at 5170 meters above the sea level – nights at Gorakshep is not great even for your trekking guide, although he has been trekking back to back.
Pangboche Village – Mt Everest dissapears from this village
Pangboche is the intermediate stop between Tengboche and Dingboche on the trail of Everest base camp.
The Pangboche Gomba , which can be reached after a steep climb of about 40 minutes from the settlements on the lower pangboche, is an important pilgrimage site for local Sherpas who believe that it contains some relics of Milarepa. Milarepa is a famous 11th-century Tibetan lama who spent his life in meditation at various religious retreats across Nepal.
We reach Pangboche village on the first day of descending trekking trip after Everest base camp is done. Upper Pangboche has monastery famous for its old hermitage.
Pheriche – a windy village of Everest Khumbu region
Pheriche is the starting point for trips to Lobuche before getting to Everest basecamp. It has a lodge, restaurants and small shops as well as a generous washing area and toilet facilities.
Pheriche village has high altitude clinic where foreign doctors serve you at very much affordable rate.
You can also produce wind energy at this village as the river valley is pretty wind most of the time.
Portse – A village of mountaineers
Portse is a travel guide for travellers who want to enjoy nature and discover stunning spots during their flexible everest region trekking trip in Nepal. Destinations of Nepalgram offer a variety of nature experiences; for instance. Portse village do not locate exactly in route. But however you do any of trekking including Everest base camp trekking through this village.
Although the trekking trail to get to Portse are narrower than trails like Dole for Gokyo trekking & Tengboche for Everest base cam trekking trips, there is proper trail for trekking inside the village.
If you are thinking about a small loop from Pangboche/Gokyo to Portse it surely worth than getting back to Namche by same route.
Lukla – Entrance of Everest region
Lukla village has Tenzing hilary airport & is the gateway to Mt. Everest and the trekking peaks inside Sagarmatha National Park. Lukla has lodgings and plenty of shops along with a post office, Bank, police post, telegraph office and ATM machines.
Lukla is the first breakfast point before getting to everest base camp. And it is the celebration town after the everest base camp trekking; before flying out to Kathmandu. Enjoy the mountain party & Dance clubs with trekking gears.
Prayer flags – 5 elements of life
Prayer flags are one of the most beautiful sights of Everest base camp trek. They are in a real sense all over.
Flags are seen on the top of mountains and on the highest points or passes between Mountain ranges. Prayers flags are traditional Tibetan Buddhist spiritual banners that are commonly found at peaks all around the Tibetan plateau, including in high altitude trekking areas of Nepal.
These flags are symbol of local people worshiping the mountains as god.
Nepali food
There are a few fundamental prerequisites that you want to have while journeying the Himalayas. The food eaten by the most of the porters and guides is Nepalese food which comprise of rice, dal, bhat and roti (chapati). Your guide & porters pay for their food for the closed menu.
Whereas for the trekkers you can find the menu at every teahouse/lodges where basic western, indian, Italian, Chinese, Nepali food are available. Dinner times are adaptable however they depend upon next day plan by your guide. In general we will eat breakfast at 7:30 am, lunch at around 1:00 pm and dinner around 7:00pm.
